Handmade & Local Goods rules
Handmade means made by you. These rules keep “handmade” honest so customers know they're buying something you genuinely created.
It has to be genuinely yours
List goods you make or substantially create yourself. Assembling a kit or reselling a finished product someone else made isn't handmade. If you buy components — beads, hardware, blanks, yarn — and turn them into something new, that's fine; just be clear about it.
- The finished item is made or substantially made by you.
- You describe your materials accurately.
- When you use purchased components, you say so plainly.
Custom orders and timelines
Made-to-order work is welcome. If something takes two weeks or six, say so up front, and keep the customer posted if a timeline changes. An honest “this takes a while” beats a missed promise every time.
No counterfeits or unlicensed designs
Don't use another company's logo, or characters and designs you don't have the right to use. Fan-inspired work that copies a trademarked character or brand isn't allowed, even if you made the item by hand.
Safety warnings where they matter
Some handmade goods need a heads-up so customers can use them safely:
- Children's items — note small parts, age suitability, and materials.
- Candles — include burn instructions and any warnings.
- Soap, cosmetics, and body products — list ingredients and any skin cautions.
- Anything with a sharp edge, a flame, or a finish that isn't food-safe.
You're still responsible
Approval doesn't certify that your products meet safety, labeling, or consumer-protection laws — that stays your responsibility. Sell what you're confident is safe and honestly described.
