Posting rules
Harvest 57 is a community board for local work. These rules keep it lawful, honest, and worth reading. Every listing is read by a person before it appears.
Post real work you are actually offering
Post a job your organization is genuinely hiring for, or a task you genuinely need done and intend to pay for. Post only for an employer you are authorized to post for. Do not post somebody else’s opening to collect applications, and do not post the same work over and over to stay at the top.
A paid gig has to be paid
A gig priced at nothing is not a gig — it is an unpaid request in a paid listing’s clothes, and this is the one place the board takes a position rather than recording what it was told. Say what you will pay, and pay it. If you need volunteers, the community events board is the right place and a better fit.
Describe the work, not the person
A listing describes the hours, the pay, the location, the duties, and what the work genuinely requires. It may not state or imply a preference, a limitation, or an exclusion based on race, color, religion, national origin, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, familial status, disability, age, or veteran status.
“Must be able to lift 50 pounds” describes the work and is fine. “Looking for a young guy” describes a person and is not. A minimum age is allowed only where the law genuinely requires one for the task, and it is your requirement to justify, not ours.
Nothing illegal
No work that breaks federal, state, or local law. No cash work arranged to avoid taxes or workers’ compensation. No hazardous work offered to minors. No work requiring a licence from somebody who does not hold one.
Nothing exploitative
No unpaid trial shifts, no “work for exposure”, no pay below what the law requires, no arrangement where the worker has to buy equipment or inventory from you to get started, and no listing that asks somebody to work first and be paid if you are happy afterwards.
Nothing deceptive
No fee to apply, ever. No listing that collects a Social Security number, a bank account, a copy of an ID, or a payment before anybody has been hired. No pyramid scheme, no reshipping or payment-forwarding work, no “be your own boss” listing whose real product is a starter kit, and no invented employer name.
Nothing sexually oriented
No sexually oriented work of any kind, and no listing whose duties, wording, or photographs are sexual. This is a community board a fourteen-year-old may lawfully read.
Nothing dangerous or dishonest about risk
If the work has real hazards — heights, livestock, machinery, chemicals — say so in the listing. A task described as easy that is not is a safety problem, not a wording problem.
A standing service belongs in Local Services
If you want people to know that you clean houses, tow cars, or mow lawns all season, that is a standing offer of service and belongs in the Local Services directory. Local Gigs is for one specific request for help. A service advertisement posted as a gig is moved or declined.
This is not a place to advertise yourself for hire
There is no board of people looking for work here, by design. Answer the listings that interest you — the person who posted sees who you are only after they accept your message.
Respect the privacy of the people who answer
Somebody who writes to you about a listing has told you their name and something about themselves. Use it for that listing and nothing else. Do not add them to a mailing list, do not pass their details to anybody, and do not ask for a Social Security number, a bank account, or a copy of an ID before you have hired them.
Every listing is read by a person
A Harvest 57 administrator reads each listing before it appears, and may ask for a change, decline it, or take it off the board later. We may also pause posting or messaging on an account.
What Harvest 57 does, and what it does not
Harvest 57 reads listings and takes down what it should. It does not confirm that an employer exists, that a wage will be paid, that a licence is held, or that a task is safe. It never charges a fee, takes a commission, holds a deposit, runs a background check, or becomes anybody’s employer. Every agreement is between the two people who made it.
If a listing breaks these rules
We may ask you to reword it, decline it, take it off the board, or pause posting on the account. Harvest 57 is not a labor authority and does not decide legal questions — it decides what stays on this board.
Not sure about something?
Ask before you post. Rewording a sentence together takes a minute and is far better than a listing that has to come down.
Employment advertising is subject to federal, state, and local law, including equal-employment and child-labor rules. If you are unsure whether something you want to write is allowed, leave it out and describe the work instead.
